Cloud Blanket
A generous pram blanket in plain double crochet, finished with a scalloped shell edge. Simple enough for a first blanket.
Draft pattern. This pattern is a draft. The stitch counts were calculated on paper, but nobody has test-stitched it yet, so sizes, gauge and yarn amounts are unverified. Please swatch first and expect to adjust.
Materials
- Worsted (Aran) yarn, machine-washable: about 700–800 m (770–880 yd)
- 5.0 mm crochet hook
- Yarn needle, scissors, measuring tape
Gauge
15 dc × 8 rows = 10 cm (4 in). Check your gauge. A blanket is large enough that a small difference adds up quickly.
Ch 3 at the start of a row counts as your first double crochet. Work the last dc of each row into the top of the previous row’s turning chain.

The blanket should now measure about 65 × 80 cm. If you want it larger, keep repeating Row 2 (and chain more in the foundation next time).
Border
- Rnd 1Do not turn. Ch 1, sc evenly around the whole blanket, working 3 sc in each corner. Sl st to the first sc to join.(—)
- Rnd 2Ch 1. *Skip 2 sts, 5 dc in the next st, skip 2 sts, sl st in the next st*, repeat around. If the last shell does not fit exactly, skip 1 or 3 sts in the last repeat. Sl st to join. Fasten off.(—)
Weave in all ends. Wash and block gently to open up the stitches and even out the edges.
