Stacked Coaster Set

Four flat, absorbent coasters with a slightly raised rim. The first pattern most crocheters try: a circle, with nothing to memorise.

Stacked Coaster Set crochet pattern
Draft pattern. This pattern is a draft. The stitch counts were calculated on paper, but nobody has test-stitched it yet, so sizes, gauge and yarn amounts are unverified. Please swatch first and expect to adjust.

Materials

  • DK cotton yarn: 20 g per coaster. Cotton is absorbent and washable, so it is worth avoiding acrylic here
  • 3.5 mm crochet hook
  • Stitch marker, yarn needle, scissors

Gauge

About 20 sc × 22 rounds = 10 cm (4 in). The coaster should lie flat. If it cups, your increases are too tight: use a larger hook. If it ruffles, use a smaller one.

Worked in a spiral without joining until the last round. Mark the first stitch of each round.

Abbreviations

  • sl st slip stitch
  • sc single crochet (US)
  • inc increase: 2 sc (or 2 hdc) in the same stitch
  • MR magic ring
  • st(s) stitch(es)
  • Rnd round (worked in a spiral unless the pattern says to join)
  • BLO back loop only
  • * * repeat the instructions between asterisks as directed
  • ( ) the stitch count at the end of a round

Finishing

Block each coaster flat: dampen it, press it gently, and let it dry. Stack the coasters with a ribbon, or work a second, smaller circle in a contrasting colour and sew it inside the first for extra thickness.

For personal use. See our terms for what you may do with finished items.
