Welcome to CrochetSmith

CrochetSmith is an independent publication about crochet. We publish patterns, lessons, and honest advice on yarn and tools, for people at every stage, from a first chain to a first blanket.

What we publish

Patterns you can follow round by round, with stitch counts at the end of every round. Lessons that start at the beginning and go step by step. Guides to yarn and tools that explain why, not just what to buy.

How we write

We use US terms and metric and imperial measurements, so a pattern makes sense wherever you are. We give gauge, sizes and materials at the start. When we do not know something, we say so.

Good crochet is quiet. A pattern that gets out of the way, a yarn that behaves, a finished piece that lasts.

How the site is supported

Some links, such as those to yarn and tools, are affiliate links, which means we may earn a small commission if you buy through them, at no extra cost to you. We explain this on our affiliate disclosure page. We plan to offer printable PDF versions of patterns.

Draft and tested patterns

Every pattern carries a status. Draft means the instructions and stitch counts have been written and checked on paper, but no one has test-stitched them yet, so sizes and yarn amounts are unverified. A pattern only loses the Draft label after it has been stitched from the written instructions.
